Have you ever felt like you are constantly fighting waves? The sea seems to keep pounding into you, and just when you get the next breath of fresh air, another one comes down. No one sees it by looking at you, your mind is constantly in a state of trying not to drown and make it through each day.
You are not alone in these feelings – many people live with the constant pressure and stress of poor mental health. In fact, over 26% of Texans reported 5 or more days of poor mental health in 2021.
Reflections Lifestyle Center understands the need for mental health care as a part of whole person well-being. Our program is for adults and adolescents who are looking for mental health support and diagnosis.
Mental health conditions are prominent in the United States, with 1 in 5 people being diagnosed with some form of condition. This equates to over 59 million people. Chances are, you know someone with a mental health condition – it might even be yourself.
At Reflections Lifestyle Center, we specialize in treating mental health conditions, including bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and more. We offer programming for adolescents ages 10-18 and adults ages 18-65.
Treating mental health conditions requires many different approaches to care. Not everyone will respond to the same therapies, and some may need medications to help manage their symptoms. This is why at Reflections Lifestyle Center, we offer cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and holistic approaches including yoga and meditation. Each client who comes in will receive an extensive evaluation that will give their care team an idea of what options will suit their needs best.
The program consists of partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP). PHP is for adolescents and adults, with therapies lasting for most of the day. Adolescents have access to Google Classroom and Chromebooks to keep up with schoolwork. IOP is also for adolescents and adults with therapies and sessions taking place during the day. For adults, evening, virtual, and hybrid treatment options are available.
There are different forms of therapies and program options for mental health conditions. The first steps will be a physical evaluation and complete medical history to help the treatment team form a proper diagnosis. Certain physical conditions, such as thyroid or heart problems, can cause mental health symptoms. It is crucial to rule these out before making a formal diagnosis. Once the professionals know what condition(s) they are facing, they will recommend a treatment path and different models that will be best suited for your unique needs.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a type of talk therapy that involves discussing negative thought and behavior patterns and working to change them. The goal is to recognize the thought or action and address it as unproductive while changing it to something that adds value. By learning the triggers behind these thoughts and how to properly manage them, CBT helps with managing a variety of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, substance use disorders, and more. The team at Reflections Lifestyle Center are experts in CBT for adults and adolescents.
Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) is also a type of talk therapy similar to CBT. It takes the process of CBT a step further by accepting the reality of the situation – i.e. the behavior or thought – and navigating the emotions it invokes. Then the person will work to change the experience into a more positive action. DBT is especially helpful for those who have a difficult time controlling their emotions, such as those living with borderline personality disorder. At Reflections Lifestyle Center, our team is composed of DBT professionals that can help you navigate your emotions and triggers.
Group therapy involves many people conversing with a therapist overseeing. By being in a group setting, people can share their experiences and learn new ways to manage their mental health from their peers. It is a great way to establish relationships that will continue after treatment is complete. Having that extra support for when mental health is low is critical and helps avoid a mental health crisis. Reflections Lifestyle Center offers group therapy for adults and adolescents, and each group consists of people of similar ages.
For some, medication will be a part of their treatment program. This can include antidepressants, anti-anxiety medicines, and anti-psychotics, among others. Not everyone will need medication to treat their mental health, and some may only need medications temporarily. No matter the case, your care team will monitor you as you begin any new medications. They will be available to discuss side effects and any concerns you have.
At Reflections Lifestyle Center, our program has a unique component called REFLECT. This is where our team works with you on the holistic side of mental health care, including practicing meditation techniques, getting adequate sleep, learning proper hydration, and nutritional counseling. Many of these aspects often go unnoticed as life becomes busy with work, school, and responsibilities. Our team helps you learn to reintegrate these needs and prioritize them, which improves overall mental health.
